12/14: vs Rumson / 12/15: CBA Colt Classic
Circle The Date
We get our first glimpse of the new look Colts as they take on a Bulldog team with solid individual talent.
New head coach Billy Ashnault takes over a CBA team that lost seven starters to graduation, including two State placers and two more Region qualifiers. However, two starters from 2017 are back after missing last season, and there is a good group of newcomers in the room, as the Colts begin a new era.
Down low, the Colts have returning starters Nicholas Geissler and Max Bean back at 106/113. With the full year under their belt, both are capable of having turnaround seasons and being on the plus side of .500. Trevor Smith is also back down low, and can provide senior leadership, and junior Patrick Dowd, a starter in 2017 who missed last season also returns. The Colts will also break in some new faces which could include a couple of frosh in Nicholas Punzi and Vincent Principe.
Senior Sam LaCorte returns in the middle of the lineup for the Colts. LaCorte, a 4-year starter, is a 2-time District medal winner, and will provide veteran leadership for a middleweight group that will consist of a lot of new faces.
There will be a lot of newcomers to the lineup up top as well. The Colts do have another 4-year starter and 2-time District placer to rebuild around in Derek Smith.. They also get a boost by the return of junior Ethan Diamond, who was a District medal winner as a freshman.
The Colts will rely on their upperclassmen early on to bring things together as the newcomers are broken into the lineup. The schedule is tough with A-North foes like Howell, Long Branch, and Manalapan, among others, and non-division meets with Raritan, Ocean, Colts Neck, and the Moorestown Duals. This is a team that will be plenty tested all season long, which have them ready to go once we get later in the year towards the tournaments.
